Shout out to Jason "perfesser" Hahn, who turned 24 yesterday. Sorry for the late mention. But Happy Birthday buddy! I'll never forget the fun times we had whenever you visited Evanston from Greenville. You know what I'm talking about. Anyways, Jason's been a buddy since forever, and I love him like a brother. Happy Birthday Old Man!

Booger's real name is Curtis Armstrong.
Here's a link to his filmography: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0035664/
The trivia on his says, "Claims that after doing "Revenge of the Nerds", everyday of his life someone recognizes him as "Booger" (although he says this does not bother him in the least.)" I totally believe it.

Something I forgot to mention about yesterday: I was sitting in the Feminist Majority section (one of Michelle's roommates is an organizer for them) and I look over to see a dude wearing an honored guest sash and playing with his kid. I look a little more closely, and I'm thinking, he looks so familiar. Isn't that....? No. It can't be. But then Jamie leans over and whispers, "Yeah, it's him." Oh My Gosh. It's BOOGER! For a while I was sitting right next to BOOGER!!! From Revenge of the Nerds. It was bitchin'. If I had known his real name, I would have asked for his autograph. But since I didn't, I didn't think I deserved to get Booger's autograph. So I just sat and stared.
I mean, there were a ton of celebrities there. But I only saw them on the jumbotron. Booger was sitting right next to me. And it was awesome.

What a weekend! On Saturday I did some stuff with the National APA Women's Forum, and then I headed to Dupont. It was a gooooorgeous day, so I sat in the circle and read and people watched. There was a big thing for the March for Women's LIves going on, with people everywhere. It was so fun to see the different types of people out, so much diversity. And did I mention it was a gorgeous day?

Warning: Controversial opinions coming. You may not agree. But it's my blog so I can say what I want! Also, there may be some ranting ahead. Just to warn you.

Yesterday I went to the March for Women's Lives. It was CRAZY. Seriously, I'm glad I went just for the fact that I got to experience something of that magnitude. I'm hearing that there were almost a million people there, and I believe it. It was nutty. So many women and men, of all ages and races. From teenagers to grandmas and grandpas, and everything in between.

Highlights: hanging out with Michelle, running into some NU friends, seeing the mothers/daughters/grandmothers marching together, listening to Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Madeline Albright, Gloria Steinem, Sara Weddington, Carol King, etc. There were some amazing women who spoke, and I was really inspired by the passion and energy of women of all ages who were out there doing something and effecting change for something they really believe in. I can't help be inspired by people who are passionate and practical-- they believe strongly, and they go out and do something.

Not so highlights: The "Christian" anti-abortion protestors. Everyone has their opinion, and is more than entitled to express them. And I think most of the anti-abortion protestors were tasteful and respected the marchers right to their opinion as well. But it was the people-- almost all MEN (which I can't really figure out why)-- who yelled "You're all going straight to hell" and had signs that said "God Hates You- Just Kill Yourself" and held up pictures of Jesus while yelling "Jesus Died for Your Sins, You're damned to hell, Wait until Judgement Day" etc. that bothered the crap out of me. I mean, some guy had a three foot tall Jesus statue/doll (think of the Jesus action figure, but a lot bigger) that he was waving around. Way to be a witness guys. Claim to be speaking for God by telling people that God hates them and wants them to burn in hell. I think Christians could be doing such a better job explaining to non-Christians why they believe abortion is wrong, and advocating for things like adoption, economic equality, accessible health insurance to provide pre-natal and post-natal care, contraceptive methods, better welfare and worker's rights. Instead, the voices that stand out are the "Christians" who yell hate and violence instead of offering love to the women who are in such a desperate place they would even consider abortion.
You know what? I'm looking forward to the day when abortion is not necessary, when women have all forms of contraception available to them, all men take sex and their responsibility to women seriously, and all women feel they have the economic, social, personal, medical and educational resources necessary to raise a child. I hope it happens soon.
So that's my little rant about that. You may not like my opinion, but at least I have one.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Don't know what came over me. I just didn't feel a compelling reason to write. But alas, almost a week has passed and my blog has been sadly neglected. Time to remedy that.

Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday to my fabulous, incredible, wonderful roommate and friend JoyPark! Holla.

Old friends Met up with MarcusJang this weekend, older brother of my best friend from high school. Since the last time I saw him, he graduated from college, started med school and got MARRIED. My how things have changed. It was wonderful to see and talk to him, and I'm very impressed at the man he has become. I'm just bummed I didn't get to meet his wife.

Weather It's been gorgeous and beautiful and nice and warm lately.
And I've been a much happier person. You know how weather effects people's moods? That's very true for me, but on an extreme scale. When it's warm and sunshiney and beautiful outside, I am a different person. People have noticed changes in my behavior because of the weather. If I lived in San Diego, I'd probably pass out from being too happy. Seriously.

North Korea My parents are in Korea right now visiting relatives, and they recently took a trip to North Korea, to one of those tourist places that North Korea allows people to go to and spend money. Mom said that the difference between the two countries was huge, and she felt very lucky that her family is from South Korea. What an experience! Very cool. I'm just glad the North Koreans didn't kidnap them.

Minsoo Minsoo asked me if I've been hanging around any fountains lately. Not yet. But it's next on my to do list. Right after buy a camel.

So this weekend in DC is the big March for Women's Lives. I'm trying to decide whether I should go. I would want to because it'll be huge and I think very empowering to see so many women marching for an important cause. Also, I know someone who's worked really really hard to help organize for it, and I'd like to support her. I'm a little hesitant though, because of some of my personal views on abortion. Which I will keep personal. But I'm leaning towards going because I do think it's important to protect overall a women's reproductive choices and health. Things like family planning, reproductive health, sex education are important and need to be protected, nationally and internationally. Cause if some people in this country had their way, birth control would be banned, pelvic exams would be outlawed and any control a woman has over her body would be eliminated. And frankly, I don't think this administration would give a crap. By the way-- abstinence only intiatives? That's crap.
Wow. So. I had no idea I was thinking all these things. So I guess I'm going. March on, sisters. Let's not let THE MAN hold our uteruses down.

The BEST conversation I just had with my brother (edited):

hyu: will you be unhappy if i marry a white guy?
minsoo: I might be.
hyu: really?
minsoo: yeah
hyu: even if it's truelove?
minsoo: yeah.
minsoo: I don't know... you can't tell me there's NO good Asian guys out there.
minsoo: did you know asian american woman outmarry SIGNIFICANTLY more than AA men?
hyu: yes
minsoo: all I gotta say is, NIMF.
hyu: i wrote a paper on japanese american internment and its effect on later generations, and i proposed that one of its effects is the huge rate of outmarrying among japanese-american women
minsoo: here's also something weird though
minsoo: the whole fetish thing
minsoo: you know w. dudes who only date/marry a. woman
hyu3: yep
hyu: that's wack
hyu: but you know, if i fall in love with a white guy, and he's a good guy who's the right guy for me, you'll like him
hyu: and that's that
minsoo: no way dude.
minsoo: if he's a white dude, you're out of the family.
hyu: shut up
minsoo: you're not polluting our bloodline with the White Devils!!!
hyu: my kids will be cuter than yours
minsoo: They'll hold us down!
minsoo: hahaha
hyu: my hypothetical half asian babies
minsoo: you'll be forever known as the girl in our family who married "the white guy."
hyu: whatever
minsoo: mee-gook-saram
hyu: i have every intention of marrying who i want to marry
hyu3: but i think i want to marry a korean guy
hyu: but the men in my family have set such a good standard for korean men, however will any other korean guy measure up??
minsoo: hah
hyu3: it'll be tough minsoo
hyu7: actually minsoo, i've been thinking about my future husband a lot lately
hyu: i told mom to start praying for him
hyu: cause joy's mom is praying for her future guy, and i don't want to be left behind
hyu: hahah
minsoo: maybe you should go by a fountain, and ask God for your future husband to be the guy who offers a drink of water to your camels.
hyu: ummmm
minsoo: And then that guy will come along, and you'll know.
hyu: minsoo
hyu: out of all the advice you've ever given me in my entire life
hyu: i think that's the best
hyu: i should frame that quote
minsoo: Yes.
hyu: can i put this conversation on my blog?
minsoolove: sure.
hyu: awesome
hyu: i'm glad we're on the same page here about my future

Much of this converation is very tongue in cheek. And it made me laugh.

I watch too much TV. Last night was an especially odd, amusing night of television. Here's why:
American Idol John Stevens can only croon. Good at singing theme songs from Casablanca, bad at singing everything else. D1ana De.Garmo sucked, especially cause she sang My Heart Will Go On. I think it's between LaToya London and Fantasia. Those two are both consistently gooooood.
Extreme Makeover Ok, I just flipped back and forth to this show. But oh man, the one dude's teeth were hooooorrible. If there's one thing I notice about someone, it's their teeth. And he had the craziest teeth ever. Crazy teeth man. Thank goodness for dentists. He looked better at the end... but he kind of ended up looking like a Ken doll. Plastic. Anyways, makeover dude fell in love with a chick getting her own extreme makeover... they met while they were recuperating from their plastic surgeries. It was very odd. Oh, and makeover chick had a tattoo removed. What was this tattoo? I believe she had tattooed the name "Wayne" in Korean on her stomach. Yep.
I Want to Look Like a Celebrity Or whatever the heck this horrific MTV show is called. The girl wanted to look like JLo, so she went in for a hairline lowering, cheek implants, eyebrow lift, chin thinning, breast implants, butt implants. Seriously. And the thing is, the chick wasn't a chick-- it was a dude!! The guy was taking hormones to get boobs and a girlier figure. As for hiding the ahem male appendage... let's just say duct tape was involved. AH! This show horrifies me, and I'm sure it horrifies these celebrities to know that people would go to such crazy lengths to look like them. It's just disturbing. In the train wreck kind of way. You just can't help but watch in horror.
Overall, I think these two shows do a great job of dissuading people from getting plastic surgery. Cause good lord, it looks so freakin' painful. The JLo wannabe was moaning in pain, and had a wrestler style mask/cast thing on his face. The whole process just looks like a house of pain. One that I don't want no part of.
Made Last night's Made was this chick who wanted to be win her school's beauty pageant. First of all, what the heck kind of school still has a beauty pageant? A school of Texas. Ah. Anways, this girl was so geeky and funny- I kind of dug her. She was weird, but she was goofy and amused herself. And she was cute, except she looked like she was 12 instead of 16. But the absolute craziest thing about her: her clothes. All her clothes consisted of screen tees with wizards, unicorns, rainbows plastered on them. Very Dungeons and Dragons. Anways, I felt bad for her, cause she didn't have a lot of friends, and she was very socially awkward. So Miss Galaxy fixed her up-- showed her how to have poise, talk to people, walk nicely, be self confident, etc. And dude, she ended up looking goooood. And feeling reallly good about herself. And, she won second place. Alright nerd girl!
The moral of this television night story: Be happy with who you are. This sounds horrible, but I felt a lot better about myself last night. I have good friends, a great family and my personality and happiness are not defined by my appearance. Life is pretty sweet.
Must watch less TV.

I had a very fun, relaxing weekend. Didn't do much. Some shopping, church, food, friends. The usual.
Highlights:
The Prince and Me Incredibly preposterous movie. But, it was cute. It's not like I was expecting Citizen Kane or something. It was a sweet, harmless movie about love. Julia Stiles was fine, Luke Mab1ey, where have you been my whole life? The English accent, the pretty eyes, the whole ruler of a small country thing. Anyways, it was a cute, dumb movie that still made me all gushy and wanting a boyfriend (again). I just want someone who will wait for me to follow my dreams and then make me a queen. Is that too much to ask?
Chocolate I gave up chocolate for lent. I gave it up because I'm always always eating it at work, and anytime I'm bored, cranky, or PMSy. But I didn't really realize how much I ate chocolate until I gave it up. It was a tough 40 days. But I was very very good and stuck to it. On Sunday I went to Bread and Chocolate in Eastern Market with JiYoung, and we go some dessert. It was some chocolately goodness. I'm eating the yummy stuff again, but I'm eating a lot less. Go me.

Question: If you had the chance to go to a baseball game or meet your childhood movie star crush, which would you choose? Mind you, this is a baseball game versus the big rivals. And you don't even know if you'll really get to meet this childhood movie star crush. But you just might, and you might even get this movie star to sign your copy of the movie they are in. What would you do? If it was me, I'd be torn. I mean, would I go to a, let's say, Giants v. Dodgers game or would I go and try to see Doog1e Howser (Nei1 Patr1ck Harr1s) or Brandon Walsh (Jason Priest1y) or Zach Morris (Mark Pau1 Gosse1ar)? I really don't know. Luckily, it's not me.

Meaghan Fothergill's response to my post about our church experience (see Tues, Apr. 6):

"The only time I've ever received communion was at this fundamentalist-ish evangelical Christian place, and they passed it out on trays or something. Even then there was more ceremony than the communion-in-a-bag thing from the movie theater place.

By the way, you were right- I have gotten a kick out of telling the Catholics about taking communion there. Then we all laugh about how Catholicism is the ONE TRUE faith and how everyone else is wrong and therefore going to hell. Just kidding. But seriously, Jesus loves us more."

If you know Meaghan, you'll find this hilarious. If you don't know Meaghan, you might be offended. But don't be. Cause it's just Meaghan.

Things that Confuse Me:
1. Why we went into Iraq and what we're still doing there.
2. Four car trains during rush hour.
3. The popularity of the Olsen twins
4. Carrot Top
5. Why anyone would ever watch "The Swan"
6. Why John Stevens is still on "American Idol"

Also, I watched the first episode of the "The Bachelor" last night. Some observations:
1. It was a lot like rush. Cheesy conversations, fake smiles, little glimpses of personality, occasional connection. When the girls came out of the limo and they met and had the little conversations-- I immediately thought of rush, and how I had heard that exact same conversation a million times before. Ha.
2. Jesse Palmer is cuuuuuuuute. And speaks French. Okay. He's hot.
3. The spy in the house-- ingenious. Can't wait to find out who she is.
4. Already hate Trish. From the moment she made the "wrap her legs around him" comment, I was grossed out and knew she'd be "that girl"-- the one who everybody in the house and in America hates, but the guy is somehow entranced by.
5. Beauty pageant girl kind of looks like a skeleton toy/doll thing, with the big forehead, set in eyes and big chin.
6. Thai pop singer? Huh?
7. I can't believe he messed up the names. LAME-O. Felt sooooo bad for the girl.

Also, yesterday I went for a long walk and found the nearest public library to my apartment. Sweeeeet. I was very very excited. And then I realized what a huge nerd I am, so that joy was slightly tempered.

On Sunday I took Meaghan Fothergill to National Community Church, cause I figured it would be less weird to take her there than to my (Asian) church. Meaghan, by the way, is very very Catholic. This may have been her first time at a Protestant service. NCC is a little untraditional-- held in a movie theater, very contemporary, but I enjoy Pastor Mark a lot, and I enjoy the worship music. I think she enjoyed the praise and worship, and the sermon for the most part. But then we took communion, and Meaghan just about fell out of her chair. Earlier, when we walked in the ushers gave us these little bags. It turns out they were communion bags-- inside, a little tin with an oyster cracker and a little vial of grape juice. I thought it was a little odd, but for Meaghan, it was almost sacriligious. I guess communion is a huuuuuuuge part of Catholic services, and super super super serious--- like, special bread that only the priest can bless, communion prayers that are like fifteen minutes long. Anyways, needless to say it was a very unusual Palm Sunday for Meaghan. I think she'll get a kick telling her Catholic friends about those kooky Protestants.

Greetings from windy DC! Another great weekend goes by. Highlight: a guest appearance by my buddy Meaghan Fothergill, aka MoFo. Hung out on Saturday, went to church together on Sunday, and then hung out the rest of the day. We went to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms, and we almost got blown away. I hear winds were gusting to 40 mph, and it felt like it. There were ocean size waves in the Tidal Basin. Ridiculous. But besides that, good times all around!

This weekend, the DC area spelling bee was on TV, and it was awesome. Dude, if I was in a spelling bee right now, I'd be knocked out in the second round. Some of those words were dang hard. The kid who won was hilarious. He had a bowl haircut, and the most unexpressive face I've ever seen. Even when he won, his smile looked so unnatural. I need to go watch "Spellbound." Cause now I'm hooked on spelling bees.

April's going to be a good month. I can feel it.

It's that time of year!!! Yes, that's right... BASEBALL SEASON!! WHOOOO! My Giants are starting their season next week, and I'm expecting another great year. So what if their pitching staff is weak, the lineup is filled with unknowns and most of their players are getting old? I still have faith in my SAN FRANCISCOOO GIAAAAANTTS!!!! They're playing in Baltimore in June. Should I go? I'll have to figure out a way to get down there and back. Oh man. I love baseball season.

Tutoring tonight. Last week I was embarassed by how crappy my math skills are-- as in, it took me a while to figure out how to multiply numbers with exponents. Let's see how bad I am tonight.

Weekend is almost here! Yay!!
