THANKSGIVING

Every year I blog about what I'm thankful for. But this year, man, I feel especially blessed. I am overwhelmed by all the things I have to be thankful for.

For instance....

My parents. They supported and fed and nurtured and prayed for me as I finished law school and took the bar, and continue to let me mooch off of them as I look for a job.
My siblings. They cheered for me and blogged for me this summer, and share in all my joys.
I PASSED THE BAR EXAM.
My health.
BarackObama is the next president of the United States.
My friends. My girlfriends from law school, college and church support me, make me laugh and are always there to lend an ear. I could not have gotten through the bar/post bar period without them.
TV on the internet. I really love it.

This is just a short little sampling. Seriously. I could go on forever.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

It is difficult to describe just how thankful/relieved/happy/awesome I feel. Thank you Jesus. And big thank you to friends. And bigger thank you to family.

Best. Thanksgiving. Ever.

HOPE!

Four years ago, I wrote this after Bush defeated Kerry:

"Overall, I really hope the next four years are more tolerant than the last four. I really hope we open our eyes to the desecration and dishonoring of the environment and the lasting poverty and inequality all over the country. I really hope we can remember that Jesus wasn't a Republican or a Democrat. I really hope that everyone can put as much passion and fire into issues like affordable health care and housing, racial equality, poverty and education as they do abortion or gay marriage."

I don't know if any of these things happened. But man, I'm so thrilled that America elected BarackObama to be the 44th president of the United States. I'm thrilled that hope won out over fear, change won out over status quo, awesome won out over lame. I felt great after voting, but started to feel anxious during the day. That anxiousness didn't go away until it was overcome by sheer joy when CharlieGibson called the election for Obama just after 8pm California time.

I'm also so happy that a family of color will be living in the White House. It's about time the WhiteHouse reflects the rest of the country. Obama has white relatives, black relatives, and ASIAN relatives. Our president has an Asian-American sister and brother in law. That rocks my face off.

I know the next four years won't be perfect. But I'm excited to see what's going to happena and the type of president Obama will be. I'm SO THRILLED that the WhiteHouse will be occupied by a lawyer who understands the constitutution, understands the rule of law, and understands what this country should and could be.

The next first family. I love it.

I had to capture the moment for posterity. The most important part of my 2008 ballot!
