NewMoon is AWFUL

Sarah and I watched NewMoon tonight. And I HATED IT. All of the parts of the book that I didn't like, such as Bella and her pathetic, simpering, woe is me, I'm nothing without my man, bipolar attitude, were WORSE when they were actualized and articulated onscreen. If teenage girls are watching this movie and thinking of Bella as an example, I fear for teenage girls. The movie is an exercise in low self esteem and co-dependant behavior. Basically, if your boyfriend breaks up with, you should fall into a deep depression and engage in reckless behavior to try to get him back, because your life is nothing without him. And if a guy who is much better for you comes around, use him, but keep pining for your one true love. And don't forget, if it's necessary you should offer your own life for his, because you're not really worthy of his love. Blecccch. Seriously, the story mistakes mental illness for true love.

Also, the movie gives you no reason to like Edward. At all. He's just a pathetic, wimpy vampire-boy. RPattison only has two facial expressions (resting face and in pain face). And both him and KristenStewart have a problem articulating their words. The rest of the Cullen family is totally underused.

That being said, it was fun to watch with Sarah. We giggled at parts we probably shouldn't have been giggling at. And it was also fun to watch TaylorLautner's abs and pecs, cause, DAMN. He may only be 17, but he should carry a license for those guns. And those abs!!! Yeesh.

The special effects were better than the last one. And TaylorLautner really was charming. And DakotaFanning and MichaelSheen were sufficiently creepy as Jane and Aro (although the entire Volturi scene was really rushed and confusing). Was it better than Twilight? I liked/hated each for different reasons. They are about equal in my book.

All in all, NewMoon was terrible. And made me despair for the future of feminism and teenage girls.

Thanksgiving 2009!!!

I love Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving food, I love gathering with my family, I love being reminded of all the amazing blessings in my life and giving thanks for them. Hanging out with my family in the kitchen/living room, cooking, watching TV, getting Thanksgiving text messages from my awesome friends, laughing, talking- it fills me up and brings me so much joy.

2009 was a big year for me, and I'm so thankful for so many things. Including:

- My family, especially being able to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday and going on a cruise together
- My friends. They live all around the country, but my friends from high school, college, law school etc. make me so happy.
- My job. I got a job this year. And that is awesome.
- Sacramento. It's fun exploring a new place to live.
- The Sacramento Public Library. Without it, I'd be bored a lot more.
- Northwestern football going 8-4.

... and so much more.

I seriously love my life. Happy Thanksgiving!!
