Last night I watched Rent with some friends and family. Now, if you know me, you know that I love love love Rent. I've seen the show five times (twice in SF, twice in Chicago, once in NY) and the soundtrack got me through college. I've always wanted to see the original cast perform, so I was freakin' thrilled when they all got cast in the movie. I am a Rent-head.
So what did I think?
Well..... I liked it. I just didn't love it the way I love it on stage. I thought the direction was weird, the transitions were awkward and some of the choices were cheesy. I especially hated hated HATED the britney spears "I'm not a girl not yet a woman" moment. You'll know if you watch it what I'm talking about. I just thought it could have been so much more than it was. But, I still loved the whole cast-- especially IdinaMenzel, TayeDiggs and JesseLMartin. Man, people who only know JesseLMartin from L&O will be shocked, because he is freakin amazing in this. And despite all the movie's shortcomings, the score is still gorgeous. The music is beautiful, the lyrics are beautiful, and the voices are beautiful.

Now that I'm talking about movies, last week I watched HP and the Goblet of Fire. It was GREAT. I mean, it's an incredibly dense book so obviously there's a lot they couldn't put in, but I thought they did a great job adapting it. Although it's true that if you haven't read the book or know about the HP world, the movie would be freakin' confusing. I thought the kid who played Harry has gotten so much better, Hermione is getting cuter and cuter, and RON, my absolute favorite character in the books, was so freakin' hilarious. I love him, and I love RupertGrint. The kids are all great, and I think they're really great together. One thing I love about HP movies is how great the casting is. The guy who played MadEyeMoody was awesome. A couple qualms-- Fleur should have been prettier, the first task was weirdly done, Sirius' appearance was lame, and they could have explained the wand thing at the end better. But overall, I loved it. :)
