Operation Surprise Joy

Our Mission: Surprise Joy!!!

The setup: Christine was supposed to come in for a journalism conference, but then told us that she couldn't come because of class. Joy and I were so bummed, but Joy even more so, cause her and Byun had not seen each other since graduation. However, unbeknownst to Joy, Christine later changed her mind and decided to come. She told me of this new development, but we kept it from Joy to make it a big surprise. Ladies and gentlemen, Operation Surprise Joy was afoot!

The plan: Christine was coming in on Thursday morning, so we decided she'd take a bus to the Metro, Metro to my apartment where I would be waiting, she could shower and change, and then we'd go to Joy's work where Surprise!!! CByunnie's in DC!!! Shrieking and laughing would ensue, and our fun weekend would commence.

Things never go as planned

The challenges: I am the worst secret keeper EVER. Seriously. I can't tell a lie worth crap. Combine that with the fact that Joy can sniff out a secret, a surprise, a plot, me hiding something from a mile away, it made for a stressful month for me. Christine's tactic was to avoid talking to Joy. Mine was to avoid the topic like the plague.

What really happened: This morning, everything was going as planned. Christine caught the shuttle and made her way to our apartment. I told Joy I was going in late, so I sat around dawdling for a while. I think me dawdling also had the affect of Joy dawdling as well. She was taking forever to get ready, and when she finally left it was 9:10. I knew Christine was going to arrive soon, but I quickly discounted them seeing each other, cause I figured Joy was going through the underground, and Christine would just go up the escalator. I'm waiting, waiting, and then I get a phone call from Christine. She's breaking up, but I can make out some laughter, and finally her saying "I ran into Joy in front of the cookie shop!!" OH CRAP. So much for surprising Joy at work!! Needless to say, Joy walked smack dab into Christine, and hysteria and laughing ensued much earlier than we anticipated. Oh well.

Conclusion: Our plan was a success!! Joy was surprised!! Even she was shocked at how she had no clue. Christine and I are master decievers. And the three of us are gonna have a FREAKIN fun weekend.
