Let me tell you 'bout the hurricaaaaannneeeee.....
That's right. HURRICANE!! I lived through Hurricane Isabel! HURRICANE WATCH! News at 11! Flooding! Trees down! Power outages!
Going into it, I was kinda scared. Earthquakes-- no problem. Blizzards? Whatever. But I had never experienced a hurricane. So what was it like? In all honestly--- It was BORING. The storm bypassed us, hitting Virginia west of us, and parts of Maryland. So all we got was some gusty wind and sheets of rain. It was like a bad winter storm back home. But such drama! 24 news coverage! Metro closing! Federal government closing! Apocolypse now!
But I'm definitely not complaining. As anti-climactic as I thought it was, good ol' Hurricane Isabel shut down D.C. for two days. So I had a four day weekend! Relaxing, watching TV, shopping. Did some reading, bought some clothes, etc. Yo, in my four years at Northwestern, they didn't cancel classes once. The only time they cancelled classes in California was after the '89 earthquake, and that was only for one day. This was a very nice break. A bit unnecessary, I think, but very nice. Thank you, Isabel!
